Shalom Catholic Community
"Being born among the youth, the Community shall have special LOVE and DEDICATION to them."
(Statutes of the Shalom Catholic Community, Preamble)
The Shalom Catholic Community was born at Saint John Paul II's feet, as the offer of life of a youth to God e and to the Church, for the evangelization of the youth of the whole world.
In the beginning (1982) this offer took the form of a snack bar which had the purpose of attracting young people and giving them an experience with the Risen Jesus.
Today, present in dozens of countries around the world, the Shalom Catholic Community is formed by men and women who, in the diversity of the forms of life present in the Church, engage themselves in a communal and missionary life with the aspiration of bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every man and woman, especially those distant from Christ and the Church.
We can also observe that the dimensions taken in the growth of this seed thrown by God resemble strongly the parable of the mustard seed; and that the ground chosen by the Father, the agricultor, was youth, so to evangelize, with youth, all the other "grounds" of the world: families, the needy, the builders of society. This work expresses itself through prayer groups, activities of human promotion, artistic (festival Halleluya) and formative (Shalom Youth Congress, Charismatic Forum) events, always with the intent of bringing Peace to the heart of man.
Thus, WYD is a great way to live the mission for which the Community was born: to be with the youth of the whole world and, with them, bring Peace (Shalom) to all the nations.
Since 1997's WYD, which took place in Paris, in France, the Shalom Catholic Community organizes groups of pilgrims who wish to live this unique event. With us, pilgrims can benefit of an exclusive program, prepared to provide a better experience with WYD. The program includes the Pre-WYD (Missionary Week) which will take place in San José (Costa Rica), with moments of adoration, formation, cultural hangouts, evangelização. The Community takes also responsibility for food supply, housing and transportation. The detailed program can be seen clicking here.
